Who will be Columbia's Next Mayor?

Becoming mayor of the state's capital city can be a daunting proposition at any point, but the 2010 race for mayor comes at a particularly crucial time. Trapped in the midst of a great recession, facing rising unemployment and ever-tightening budget constraints, but still expected to make Columbia grow and prosper, it's a brave soul who aspires to this full-time job with limited power and part-time pay. To help you see where they stand on certain issues, as well as to help you get to know them better on a personal level, Columbia Metropolitan sat down with Steve Benjamin, Kirkman Finlay and Steve Morrison, the three candidates identified as the front runners by Phil Bailey, political consultant and executive director of the S.C. Senate Democratic Caucus.
